SANFORD, N.C. – Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina (BGCCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Bella Mikels as the organization’s new Chief Financial Officer. Throughout her distinguished career, Susan has held senior financial leadership positions with some of North Carolina’s leading financial institutions, including First Bank, Pinnacle Financial Partners, Park Sterling Bank, Integrity Financial Corporation, and First Union National Bank. Most recently, she served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller at First Bank, where she provided executive oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and organizational financial stewardship.
Her extensive experience also includes serving as Chief Financial Officer of a multi-bank holding company, leading budgeting, strategic planning, financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, audit coordination, and regulatory compliance. Susan has earned a reputation for strengthening financial operations, implementing effective internal controls, and helping organizations navigate growth while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
“We are thrilled to welcome Susan to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina leadership team,” said Dr. Fallon M. Brewington, Chief Executive Officer. “As our organization continues to grow, strong financial leadership is essential to ensuring we remain good stewards of the resources entrusted to us. Susan brings exceptional expertise, integrity, and a collaborative leadership style that will help position BGCCC for continued sustainability and long-term impact.”

Outside of her professional career, she serves as Camp Director for the Marlboro Flowers Salkehatchie Summer Service Camp in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Each summer, she leads a service-learning experience for approximately 70 youth and adult volunteers, with participants ages 14 and older completing critical home repairs for families in need. Beyond rebuilding homes, volunteers build meaningful relationships that strengthen communities and change lives.
“I’ve always believed that financial stewardship and community service go hand in hand,” said Mikels. “I’m excited to join Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina and contribute to an organization that is making such a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and families throughout our region. I look forward to working alongside the Board of Directors, staff, and community partners to help ensure the organization’s financial strength supports its mission for generations to come.”
Susan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Lenoir-Rhyne College and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
As Chief Financial Officer, Susan will oversee the organization’s financial strategy, budgeting, accounting operations, compliance, and long-term fiscal planning, supporting Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina’s continued mission to inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
